Potato Chip Rock gets its name from the thin, curved rock formation that juts out from the mountain—shaped just like a giant potato chip. The photo opportunity alone makes the trek worth it, but the panoramic views from the summit are equally breathtaking.
On a clear day, you can see sweeping views of North San Diego County, Lake Poway, and beyond. The sense of accomplishment when you reach the top makes every step worth it.

There’s nothing better than enjoying San Diego’s natural beauty with great company. Recently, my colleagues and I took on the Potato Chip Rock hike together—and it did not disappoint.
The trail is steadily uphill for most of the climb, but the scenery keeps you motivated. Along the way, you’ll meet fellow hikers, runners, and outdoor enthusiasts who share the same appreciation for living in such an active, beautiful community.
